Feed a Dog

The Loyal Companion
the rich history and cultural significance of dogs, from ancient Egypt to Vedic culture, and learn about initiatives like 'Feed A Dog' striving to protect and care for our loyal four-legged friends.

Dogs, revered throughout history for their unwavering loyalty and companionship, hold a significant place in cultures worldwide. From ancient Egypt to Vedic culture, they've been cherished, associated with gods, and deemed companions closest to humans.

In ancient Egypt, dogs were worshipped, buried alongside humans, and immortalized in murals. Anubis, a deity embodying a dog form, symbolizes their profound significance. Similarly, Tibetan culture honors dogs as close to humans in reincarnation and revered temple guardians.

Within the Vedic tradition, deities like Indra and King Dharamraja are depicted with faithful canine companions, illustrating their esteemed status. Despite this reverence, modern street dogs face appalling abuse and neglect, exacerbated by urbanization's hazards and inhumane treatment.

However, initiatives such as 'Feed A Dog' emerged to combat this plight. Originating from a poignant incident in Goa in 2010, this nationwide movement engages hundreds of volunteers in ensuring the welfare of street dogs.

Back in 2010, a heart-wrenching incident compelled us to take action. Witnessing a hit-and-run accident involving a helpless dog sparked the birth of the Feed a Dog campaign. Since then, our mission has expanded to encompass various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of stray dogs across the country:

  1. Feeding Program: We provide sustenance to thousands of stray dogs in major cities nationwide. Through our extensive network, we offer nutritious meals at over 700 locations daily, including soy nuggets, eggs, milk, rusk, bread, and biscuits.

  2. Emergency Services: Operating a 24-hour animal helpline and ambulance services in six cities, we ensure prompt assistance and medical care for injured, sick, pregnant, and orphaned dogs.

  3. Rescue and Rehabilitation: Our dedicated team rescues, rehabilitates, and treats stray dogs in need. With three shelters specifically for dogs, we offer a safe haven for those in distress.

  4. Adoption Drives: We organize adoption drives to find forever homes for our furry friends, promoting the concept of responsible pet ownership.

  5. Awareness Campaigns: Collaborating with residential welfare associations (RWAs) and educational institutions, we conduct awareness drives and animal welfare workshops. These efforts aim to foster compassion and understanding, encouraging people to coexist harmoniously with animals while advocating for their rights.

Through our multifaceted approach, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of stray dogs and promote a culture of empathy and respect towards all living beings
